Gaelic song

With Ann Maclean-Fleming

With my family coming from Coll and Lismore, Gaelic language and song has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started singing at the Mòd, both solo and in choirs, as a young child and have continued ever since, never missing a year. I have won the Oban Times Gold Medal for singing and the Glasgow Skye Association Gold Medal for poetry and prose recitation, as well as several awards for Gaelic literature competitions.

Before moving to Coll full time, I tutored flute, clàrsach, Gaelic and singing classes at Fèis na h-Apainne for children and adults for several years and have run Gaelic groups for all ages. I’m particularly interested in researching and keeping alive Argyll Gaelic, especially Coll Gaelic, including the songs and other music of the area.

This workshop is an opportunity to learn an easy Gaelic song and, if time allows, a few choruses from popular Gaelic songs, to allow you to join in if you ever hear them at a cèilidh. No prior knowledge of Gaelic is necessary.
